This Random Acts of Kindness day I wanted to share some of the charities we have been lucky enough to support. Being able to support charities that are close to our hearts is a huge privilege and something I’m really proud that we have been able to do at Wrendale. It’s important to me that we support charities in the local community and also national and international causes that are meaningful to all of us here at Wrendale.
As I’m sure you can imagine, we are contacted almost on a daily basis with requests for donations. Whilst we would dearly love to support every charity that asks for help, it was becoming quite difficult to administer all of the requests, so we made the decision to pick a handful of specific charities to support in a more meaningful way each year. We review this annually and the whole team here at Wrendale has a say in the particular charities we support.
In 2022, we were lucky enough to support a number of charities in addition to offering many products as donations or raffle prizes when requested. Here are a few of these charities and a little information about why we chose to support them.
There seem to be two things common to almost all of the people that apply for a job at Wrendale. The first is that they tend to be dog lovers and the second is that they are keen advocates for the environment. It’s therefore unsurprising that a number of the charities we supported last year followed these general themes. The Marine Conservation Society is a wonderful charity that takes a science based approach in fighting for cleaner seas full of life. We love the work they do and share their vision of thriving oceans, allowing both nature and communities to flourish.
You can support the work done by the Marine Conservation Society by making a donation here or by purchasing our charity mini boxed cards.
Eden Reforestation Projects – This is a fantastic charity that works with local communities to restore forests on a massive scale, creating jobs, protecting ecosystems and helping to mitigate climate change. We all feel that this is incredibly important work, and we are pleased to partner with Eden Reforestation for our new Little Wren babygrow collection. For every babygrow bought, we will fund the planting of a new tree.
North Lincolnshire Children’s Literacy Trust – Jack and I both grew up in North Lincolnshire and we are proud to base our business here too. Contributing to the local community is important to both of us and the literacy trust is striving to ensure that every child in North Lincolnshire reaches their potential by becoming confident and enthusiastic readers as well as acquiring the essential literacy skills they need to lead successful lives. There is a huge amount of evidence linking low literacy levels with social and economic inequality so this charity is doing some very important work and we are proud to support them. If you would like to contribute to your local community you can donate to the National Literacy Trust who work with schools and communities across the UK to give disadvantaged children the literacy skills to succeed in life.
Hearing Dogs – Hearing Dogs make an enormous difference to the lives of deaf people and it takes a lot of
investment to train these clever dogs. I was so delighted to design some greeting cards featuring the dog breeds that are trained to become hearing dogs. Even better, our own Claude became the model for the poodle design! You can shop the card range and support Hearing Dogs here.
Breast Cancer Research – So many people are affected by cancer at some point in their lives and both Jack and I lost a parent at a young age to the disease, so a cancer charity usually features on the list of charities that we support. Towards the end of 2021 one of our colleagues was diagnosed with breast cancer (thankfully she is now fully recovered) and so we felt it was fitting to donate to breast cancer research in support of her.
Dogs Trust – When the Queen passed away last year, I felt compelled to paint something to commemorate the service she gave to our country throughout her life. I didn’t intend to make this available for sale but after many requests, we produced the design as a framed print and donated all of the profits from it to the Dogs Trust. We chose this charity in part because it was one of Her Majesty’s favourite charities but also because we love the work that they do in caring for, rehabilitating and rehoming dogs in need.
If you do want to make a donation you can make a huge difference. To support any of the charities we have featured in this blog, you can do so by clicking on their logos below.
