A Wrendale guide on how to journal for mental health

With World Mental Health Day coming up on the 10th October, we have put together a Wrendale guide on how to journal for mental health. This years theme for World Mental Health Day is 'Make mental health and wellbeing for all a global priority.' We hope this guide will help you to make mental health an important focus in your day to day life.

Jot down your thoughts

Making notes of your thoughts and feelings can be a positive and useful way of helping to manage stressful situations. Journalling can help you to understand how you are thinking and feeling more clearly, with a clearer outlook on things you are able to respond and handle difficult situations in a constructive way.

SET FEEL GOOD GOALS

Setting yourself daily goals that will make you feel motivated is an effective way of boosting your self esteem. Giving yourself something to plan and aim towards can help to give you a sense of purpose.

Your goals may seem daunting at first, so we recommend breaking your goal down into achievable steps. Doing this will give you the confidence to be able to achieve it. Our Wrendale feel good journal has plenty of space to do this, with pages designed for setting daily goals and self reflection.

MAKE a SELF CARE wishlist

Taking time out to do things that improve your physical and mental health is invaluable. Self care can look different for everyone, it might be taking 5 minutes out to eat a healthy snack or it could be spending an afternoon learning a new skill. It is important to remember that all of these, big or small, can help you to keep a healthy mind.

A few self care ideas we have include...

  • Enjoying home comforts: Sitting back and taking a few moments to relax in familiar surrounding is great for the mind and is also the perfect opportunity to have a cup of tea.

  • Reading a book: Getting lost in the pages of a good book or blog can improve your mood and reduce stress levels.

  • Skills and hobbies: Learning a new skill or hobby can help you to feel happier and more relaxed whilst also boosting your self confidence. We think that scrapbooking is the perfect hobby to help you document your favourite moments throughout the year, or why not try out one of our cross stitch kits as a relaxing escape?

  • Going for a walk: Exercising can release feel good hormones known as endorphins, they can help to boost happiness and relieve depression and anxiety. Getting out for a walk with your dog or some friends can have a really positive impact on how you are feeling.

At Wrendale HQ we ensure that we take the time out for all of these things. Here is a photograph of the team out on a Wrendale walk earlier this year.

Remember the good in the world

Remembering the good in the world is key in maintaining a positive outlook on life. It is important to acknowledge people, places and things that mean the most to you, these are what you will reach for during tough times.

Another crucial part of remembering the good in the world is recognising when you are proud of yourself and something you have achieved. Whether personal or professional, celebrating your wins can help you to feel content.
